Description

A postwar m/39 Fur Hat for Army enlisted men.

The m/39 hat is based on an earlier model known as “Drivers’ Fur hat m/22“. It was issued to all the branches starting from the autumn 1939, so just prior to the Winter War. As the norm with the Finnish military, all the branches had their own flair when it comes to colours and materials. The army one had grey wool with greyish fur, though they can be anything from white or brown to green.

The hat is identical in construction to a wartime m/39 Fur Hat. It is made out of grey serge wool, with a brownish cotton liner. The liner has been hand stitched on as was done in wartime hats. The fur is most likely chrome tanned which gives it the greenish color. The front flap is attached with a metal hook and the side flaps attach with a cotton string.

There is a faint Army intendants and year stamp, which is most likely INT 53. The size is roughly 56 cm.

The fur has worn a bit on the edges, but overall in good condition hat for an reenactor.
