Description

Reproduction of the Continuation War unofficial wool sleeve badge of the publicity companies.

This wool badge was worn on the shoulder sleeve by some Finnish Army Publicity Company soldiers. This is not official army insignia, but something the companies most likely ordered made themselves, as these can be seen in severeal wartime photos.

Publicity Company soldiers moved along the front and rear lines to document the war via text, photos and film. The photos in the now digitized Finnish Wartime Photograph Archive SA-Kuva are mostly taken by these men.

During the Winter War Finland had a Propaganda Section (Propagandaosasto) under the High Command. The word “propaganda” had a negative connotation in Finland, so the word “tiedoitus”, which means “announcement” or “publicity”, was used from 1940 onwards as the propaganda branch was reorganized during Interim Peace. Publicity Company (Tiedoituskomppania) is abbreviated as “TK”. There were around 8-12 Publicity Companies during the war, and they were organized under the Publicity Section (Tiedoitusosasto) which was under the High Command.

The badge is yellow wool serge with sewn on black wool serge letters.

Price is for one.
