Description

Reproductions of Finnish m/36 (m/36-39 by collectors) collar tabs from June 1941 until the end of the war. These collar tabs were used on m/36 wool tunics and summer blouses.

These are embroidered insignia on wool fabric and a support fabric on the back. We replicated the designs and measurements from wartime documents, and color matched the wool and thread to original wartime tabs.

1941 Collar Tabs Information

History

With an order on 13th of June 1941 the separate conscript and reservist insignia were abolished. Conscript and reservist NCOs were to use the same collar tabs as cadre NCOs with no epaulette chevrons. Cadre and Reserve officers would use the same collar tabs, with the golden heraldic roses.
Conscript and reservist Privates (Sotamies) and Privates First Class (Korpraali) would use the same collar tabs. In addition Privates First Class (Korpraali) would have single chevrons on their epaulettes as before.

Regulations

In addition to their collar tabs Privates First Class (Korpraali) would have single sewn 5 mm wide silver colored fabric tape chevrons with a 135 degree angle pointing upwards on the middle of their epaulettes.
During the war white herringbone tape was usually used instead.

The officer ranks were indicated with a number of gold colored heraldic roses placed on the horizontal centerline of the collar tabs.

  • Second Lieutenant (Vänrikki): one small rose
  • Lieutenant (Luutnantti): two small roses
  • Captain (Kapteeni): three small roses
  • Major (Majuri): one large rose
  • Lieutenant Colonel (Everstiluutnantti): two large roses
  • Colonel (Eversti): three large roses

General ranks were indicated with gold colored heraldic coat-of-arms lions placed on the horizontal centerline of the collar tabs.

  • Major General (Kenraalimajuri): one lion
  • Lieutenant General (Kenraaliluutnantti): two lions
  • General (Kenraali): three lions

Sewing instructions

For higher officers and lower officer service tunics:

Cut the backside support fabric off right at the edge of the tab outline. Fold the colored fabric around to the backside along the edge of the tab and hand sew it to the opposite side to keep it folded.
