This is our reproduction of the most common backpack in Finnish service during the war. We have not found an official Finnish military model designation for this backpack so we are calling it model Ulvila as did the original manufacturer: Friitalan Nahkatehdas Oy. The name Ulvila comes from the town where the leather factory was located.
There were a lot of variations of this backpack with small differences during the war as it was made by many manufacturers. Our backpack was patterned from an original and represents one of the common types.
This is a khaki colored heavy canvas backpack that has been sewn with green thread as per originals. It has medium brown pigskin trimming and cowhide loops and straps. In addition to the main compartment there are two external pockets. The main compartment closes with a natural white cotton pull string through brass eyelets. The main flap and the external pocket flaps close with leather straps and nickel plated steel roller buckles.
There are four riveted leather loops on either side and on the bottom for fastening items to the backpack with leather straps. The main flap also has two longer riveted loops for fastening items on top of the backpack.
The leather shoulder straps can be adjusted with two heavy nickel plated steel roller buckles that are fastened to the bottom of the backpack.
