Description

Reproduction of the Finnish M/40 helmet chinstrap.

The strap is 16 mm wide and 1.5 mm thick undyed cowhide with steel hardware.

The strap comes with one-use rapid rivets which you use to attach the strap to your helmet. We also include a couple of spare rivets just in case. You need a hammer to set the rivets.

How to set the rivets:

  • Push the end of the strap through the helmet metal loop so that the first two holes are on the other side and the second two holes are on the other side.
  • Make sure the strap is on the correct side of the helmet and facing the correct way.
  • Bend the strap so that the holes are facing each other and the helmet metal loop is between the pairs of holes.
  • The longer halves of the rivets are placed in the first two holes so that the rivet shaft is facing upwards.
  • The shorter halves are placed in the second two holes so that the rivet’s holes are facing downwards towards the other halves’ shafts.
  • Push the rivet halves together with your fingers. They should stay together for now.
  • Set the bottom halves to a hard surface and hit the top halves with a hammer. It should flatten the rivet a bit.
  • The rivet should now be set. Try to pull the halves apart with your fingers to test that they stay together.
  • If the halves come apart, push them together and hit the top half again with a hammer.
